Rep. Cynthia McKinney may be charged for striking a police officer Wednesday, March 29th, who was attempting to stop her from bypassing a security check point. Congresspersons are generally allowed to bypass these checkpoints, however McKinney was not wearing any identification and had just recently changed her hair style.

I don't see how she has a leg to stand on. There is no excuse for hitting a police officer doing his job.
"For Miss McKinney not to be recognized by the Capitol police officer was, in itself, an insult," Pressley said. "She's recognizable all over the world. So in D.C., our capital, you would expect that almost any police officer would recognize her with all the controversy that's been attached to her name."
Pretty thin defense. Admittedly, I would have recognized her, hairdo and ID pin or not, and I am not even an American. On the other hand, she has to respond to a police officer, and submit to the routine screening. Temper - even in the case of a subtle insult - shouldn't get the better of her. Race issues aside, there may be other types of bias at work, if any, for instance political or relating to personality.
Racial insults are often - in our times - rather subtle. Cynthia McKinney may have a case and intuitively decided to utilize it for getting attention.
The fact that she is quite hot shouldn't draw away attention from her obvious quirks and potentially ulterior motives.
(Am I the only one who thinks that she is attractive, I wonder? The same goes for Ann Coulter. Hate her politics, but there is something about her, he he)

Its possible that race played a part here but that still doesn't give someone a pass to deck a cop.

It's interesting that members of Congress consider themselves to be above the law in security matters. What would happen to a normal citizen who attempted to bypass a security checkpoint and assault a police officer?
